    Why Wrestle?
  • Builds self-confidence and discipline.
  • Increases strength, endurance and overall physical conditioning.
  • Enhances agility which complements all major sports.
  • Teaches self-motivation, determination and sportsmanship.
  • Kids wrestle within age and weight groups.
If your child wants to improve his overall sports performance in football, baseball, etc., wrestling builds strength, endurance, and agility that promotes quicker reflexes. For sixth graders that want to compete next year in junior high football, wrestling is a great idea.

Many people have thought that wrestling is a sport only for the larger heavier kids. This is far from the truth! Wrestling is one of the few sports where children of all ages and weights are matched equally by age and weight.

Wrestling, unlike many sports where height or size is a huge advantage, allows children regardless of their physical stature an equal opportunity to excel.

Wrestling also is a sport that promotes quick thinking, mental fortitude, and the need for a chess-like strategy to win on the mat. Wrestling is not a sport where shear muscle strength necessarily wins. A good wrestler has to build core skills that include a winning strategy and execution of offensive and defensive moves to score points or pin his opponent. Wrestling matches are tightly officiated and ethical and sportsmanlike behavior is required during competition.

Both the junior high and the high school wrestling coaches have mentioned that a good youth program would give children, that desire to wrestle in upper school, an advantage in fundamental skills and identify youth wrestling stand-outs.

This wrestling season will be the best. Wrestling parents along with coach Troy Downey have formed a committee to examine previous wrestling seasons and determine what is needed to make this wrestling season a meaningful and memorable experience.
